![]() Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children" ~ Lamentations 2:19 ~ It has been said that "we can't protect our children from the world". I submit to you, that is a lie. As Christians we have the power of God and we can access that power through prayer. The Lord does not guarantee that our children will not get hurt or that bad things won't happen to them, but we can protect them with the Lord's help through the power of prayer. For example, your child is riding his bike and a car is coming down the road, he loses his balance and falls into the path of the car. This could be fatal. However, the car stops, your child gets up and walks away from the incident, he has been protected because he survived an otherwise fatal crash. This is the power of a praying mom. Had this child not been prayed for it might have been much worse. Every aspect of a child's life must be covered in prayer. There may be many things we think of as insignificant, but everything is significant to the Lord. Take it to Him in prayer. We should pray for the mental, physical, spiritual and social needs of our children. [Luke 2:52] Do not only pray for your children, but with them. Pray for the requests they have. Pray in their presence not only for their personal requests, but for them personally. It's important for children to hear their parents praying for them. Pray privately for your children. We can pray in three specific areas. The past, the present and the future. The Past: Pray for anything in your past that you believe might affect your child. For example: A family history of alcoholism, mental illness, diabetes, heart disease, ad infinitum. Pray for anything that you think might harm your child. Take these things to the Lord and leave them with Him. The Present: Pray for the current needs of your children. Pray for their health, education, friends, social interaction with family and friends and anything that is of concern to your child. The Future: Pray for your child's future growth in the Lord, a future mate--next to salvation this is the most important decision your child will make. The future is something that frightens most parents. We can not predict what will happen in the lives of our children. Pray for God's wisdom for your children, that they will make the right decsions. Pray that they will not become involved in addictive behavior, or that he will not be enticed in to an alternate life style. The list is endless. Read the book of Proverbs with your children. This will help them to gain valuable advice and wisdom from God's Word in decision making. The Bible gives us a wonderful model of the praying mom, in the person of Hannah. Her prayer was one of fervency and anguish. After much time spent in petition for her child, Hannah's prayer was answered. Pray for the lives of your children. God is on your side and He will answer when you call to Him in prayer for your children. Pray in anticipation of an answer from the Lord. He will answer. "In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; |
